Extension Care and Maintenance
Wash:
That helps...
Always brush hair with a approved brush before washing
When conditioning, work mid lengths to ends (Do the Tea pot move.)
Thoroughly rinse hair to ensure all products are removed to avoid build-up
After washing, wrap hair in a microfiber towel to remove excess moisture. Spray the hair with a recommended detangler (see below) then brush hair with an approved brush starting at the ends to detangle.
When blow drying be sure to hold roots to ease tension off the application area
Wear:
Well...
Detangle using an approved brush beginning at the ends all the way to the scalp
Do not use brushes with balls (exception Wet Brush) on the end of the bristles as this can snag and stretch the hair causing breakage. Metal brushes, boar bristle, extension brushes can be used, flat or round. (see recommendations below)
Be sure to apply all styling products away from the roots of your hair. I have tried and tested a lot and my recommendations are at the bottom
When using heat be sure to keep away from the root to avoid damaging the extension bond
Always use a heat protectant when styling with heat, while hair is wet, not on dry hair then applying heat. Big no,no
Sleep:
Top tip, get enough…
Ensure your hair is totally dry
Tie back or braid your hair to avoid tangles
If you notice your hair tangling try a silk pillowcase to reduce friction.
Pulling. No pulling. Did you hear me? hands OFF!
Live:
Preferable to...
Swimming: Be sure to braid back your hair and coat the mid-length to ends with protection spray (see below), to ensure longevity of the extension quality. A good UVA and protectant is recommended for both Skin and Hair. Minerals found within bodies of water can react poorly with extensions and lead to discolouration of the extensions. If you do get discoloration, a malibu professional treatment works magic.
Workout: Tie back or braid your hair during times of exercise and spray the mid length to ends with eg. Rene Furterer Lumicia spray to stop the absorption of salts from sweat.
Coloring/toning: I do not recommend coloring or toning your hair as it can change the integrity of your hair. If you choose to color or tone your hair, only have it done by a licensed professional.
DO:
Really...
Tie your hair back
Brush hair with an extension brush holding at the roots to alleviate pressure. Recommendations and links below.
Wash your hair and scalp well
Avoid salt and chlorine as this may change the hairs color and efficacy of the bond’s attachment
Ensure to remove 80% of the moisture before using a blow dryer. This lessens the time your hair is exposed to heat and tension.
TREAT it as your own or better as you have paid for it !
DON’T:
Just don’t...
Don’t sleep with hair wet
Don’t condition the roots. Condition from mid length to ends
Don’t use silicone based products
